The Navratri festival which is done for the Lord Durga Devi is also called the Dasara Festival. This Dasara festival is one of the major festival which is celebrated in the country. Every year lakhs of pilgrims will be celebrating this festival throughout the country. The Dasara festival will be celebrated for the span of nine days. Like the Ganesh Festival for the Durga Pooja also the pilgrims will be keeping the idol of the Lord Durga for nine days. For these nine days, the idol of the Durga Devi is worshipped in different forms. After the nine days is completed, the Durga Devi idol is immersed in the water.  This procedure is called the Durga Visarjan. The Durga Visarjan has to be completed for all the idols for which the pooja has been done.

Please note, the Durga Visarjan has to be done for the idol which has been purchased for the Durga pooja only. If the pilgrims have to the Durga idol at home which is not brought for the festival purpose and the pilgrims are doing the pooja to the idol regularly then they need not do the Durga Visarjan. Also, the temples also need not to do the Durga Visarjan procedure.

  • The date of the Durga Visarjan is on 24 October 2023 for this year. The timings of the Durga Visarjan are from 09.00 AM – 06.00 PM on this day.
  • The pilgrims who wanted to do the Durga Visarjan had to take the Durga Devi idol and reach the nearest water body. Then the pilgrims can do the Durga Visarjan in the water. There is no specific procedure for this.
  • Some pilgrims will be doing the Durga Visarjan pooja before starting from home and will be providing the last harathi for Lord Durga Devi.
