Last updated: 7 July 2026. Tariffs and quotas below are indicative and change from time to time — always confirm on the official portal srsmatha.org before travelling.

Quick answer: how SRS Matha rooms are booked

SRS Matha does not take room bookings by phone, email or WhatsApp. Rooms are booked only at srsmatha.org (about 250 of its 1,200+ rooms are in the online quota) or in person at the Central Reception Office (CRO) in Mantralayam, where the remaining ~900 rooms are issued as “current booking” on arrival.

Beware of fake “booking numbers”

The Matha takes no bookings by phone — its own accommodation page states that telephone, email and booking over WhatsApp or any messaging app are not entertained. Any phone number claiming to book SRS Matha rooms is unofficial, wherever it appears. Use srsmatha.org only, or book in person at the CRO.

Where you stay at Mantralayam

Mantralayam is a small pilgrim town on the bank of the Tungabhadra in Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh, built around the Moola Brindavana of Sri Guru Raghavendra Swamy, the 17th-century Madhwa saint. Because the town exists to serve pilgrims, most accommodation near the temple is run directly by the Sri Raghavendra Swamy Matha rather than by outside hotels.

According to the Matha’s own accommodation information, it operates over 1,200 rooms in Mantralayam. About 250 rooms form the online quota on srsmatha.org, while roughly 900 rooms are the offline quota, released as current booking at the CRO for pilgrims arriving in person. The guest houses, cottages and lodging blocks sit within a short walk of the Brindavana. Each room accommodates two to four adults.

Room categories and indicative tariffs

The Matha’s guest houses span simple non-AC rooms to AC rooms in the newer blocks. The figures below are indicative rates compiled from recent pilgrim guides — the Matha revises tariffs periodically and the live rate is shown only inside the booking portal, so treat these as a planning guide and confirm on srsmatha.org.

Vijayendra Mandiram (VJM)Non-ACaround Rs.700
Vadheendra NilayaNon-ACaround Rs.700
Narahari NilayaNon-ACaround Rs.700

Dormitory-style halls and choultries for larger pilgrim parties are also arranged at nominal cost. AC rooms are the smallest pool and sell out first, especially in summer and around Aradhana.

Advance booking — the Matha’s own rules

The Matha keeps allotment simple and non-commercial. Its published rules:

  • Booking only through the Matha. Advance rooms on srsmatha.org; walk-in rooms at the CRO.
  • Booking window. Online booking opens either 30 days or 7 days in advance, depending on the room pool.
  • No single occupancy. For security reasons rooms are allotted only to two or more guests (each room takes two to four adults).
  • Room number at check-in. Even with an online reservation, the specific room and key are issued at the CRO when you arrive.
  • Refundable deposit. A cash deposit equal to about one day’s rent is collected at check-in and returned at checkout.
  • No cancellation, refund, transfer or extension. Online reservations cannot be cancelled, changed to another date, transferred to another person, or extended — book only firm dates.

Tatkal / current booking: the last-minute room pool

Missed the advance window? Two last-minute routes exist:

Short-window online (tatkal-style) quota. Pilgrim guides report that a pool of roughly 75 rooms per day opens for online booking only 3 to 7 days before the arrival date — this matches the Matha’s own note that booking opens “30 days or 7 days” in advance. If the 30-day calendar shows no rooms, re-check the portal about a week before your date; fresh inventory often appears.

Current booking at the CRO. The offline quota of roughly 900 rooms is issued first-come, first-served at the Central Reception Office on the temple premises. An early weekday-morning arrival gives the best odds; on weekends, holidays and during the annual Aradhana Mahotsava the counter clears within hours.

Booking on srsmatha.org, step by step

The online process is short — this is what to expect:

  1. Open srsmatha.org and go to Online Services → Room Booking. The booking system runs at srsmatha.org/srsbook.
  2. Register or sign in with your email/mobile, then select your check-in date. The calendar shows which guest houses have rooms for that date.
  3. Choose the guest house and category (AC or non-AC). The live tariff for your date is displayed here.
  4. Enter guest details with a photo ID (Aadhaar is the most commonly accepted); the same ID must be shown at check-in.
  5. Pay online. Complete payment promptly — the selected room is held only briefly before being released back to the pool.
  6. Save or print the e-receipt. At Mantralayam, present it at the CRO, pay the refundable one-day-rent cash deposit, and collect your room number and key.

Since the Matha does not allot rooms to single travellers, solo pilgrims must use private lodges — that is the one case where a hotel is the only option.

Darshan + stay: half-day and one-day plans

The Brindavana is generally open roughly 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM – 9:00 PM, with Mantrakshata blessings around 10:00–11:30 AM and 6:30–8:30 PM when His Holiness is present. Timings shift on Aradhana and special days.

Half-day plan (morning arrival, same-day exit)

Arrive by early morning (Mantralayam Road station is about 15 km away; buses and autos run to town). Take morning darshana before 10 AM when queues are shortest, stay for Mantrakshata if the pontiff is present, have anna prasadam at the dining hall around noon, and depart after 2 PM.

One-day plan (overnight stay)

Check in at the CRO by late morning, rest in the afternoon, and attend evening darshana (4–9 PM). Next morning, join the early darshana at 6 AM — the quietest slot — before checkout. An overnight Matha stay is the only comfortable way to attend both darshans, which is why rooms nearest the Brindavana sell out first.

Frequently asked questions

How do I book a room at the Sri Raghavendra Swamy Mutt?

Only through the Matha’s own channel: advance rooms via the official website srsmatha.org, and walk-in rooms at the Central Reception Office in Mantralayam. The Matha does not accept bookings by phone, email or WhatsApp.

Is there a phone number for SRS Matha room booking?

No. The Matha explicitly states that telephone bookings are not entertained. Any number advertised for “SRS Matha room booking” is unofficial and should not be trusted with money or ID details.

What are the room rates at SRS Matha?

Indicatively, non-AC rooms run around Rs.600–700 per day and AC rooms around Rs.1,430–1,520, plus a refundable one-day-rent deposit at check-in. The live tariff for your date appears in the booking portal.

What is tatkal or current booking at Mantralayam?

Besides the 30-day advance quota, a reported pool of about 75 rooms per day opens online 3–7 days before arrival, and roughly 900 rooms are issued in person at the CRO on a first-come, first-served basis.

Can one person book a room?

No. For security reasons the Matha does not provide single-person accommodation; rooms are allotted to two or more guests, up to four adults per room.

Is there a deposit, and can I cancel?

A refundable cash deposit of about one day’s rent is taken at check-in. Online reservations are non-cancellable, non-refundable, non-transferable and cannot be extended, so book only firm dates.

The Matha’s only official website is srsmatha.org. Rely on it for every reservation and treat look-alike domains and third-party “booking” pages with caution.
