Tiruvannamalai which is known as the Arunachalam is the most visited temple for the devotees of Lord Shiva. This temple is known as the Arunachalam because of the presence of the mountain which is equal to the Lord himself. Also, the temple of Tiruvannamalai is the abode of Lord Shiva in the form of Agni Lingam. This is the reason, the temple is the most important temple among the devotees of Lord Shiva. The mountain which is located in the town is called Giri and taking a walk around the mountain is known as Girivalam.
The walking path around the mountain is well laid and the pilgrims will be walking on this path every full moon day. This is called as the Girivalam. The pilgrims will be considering that they are going around Lord Shiva himself, by taking the walk on the Girivalam route.

- The pilgrims will be considering only the night walk as the Pournami day Giri Pradikshina
- There is no need for any booking or reservation to take a walk on the Girivalam route.
- The pilgrims need to make sure to reach the Tiruvannamalai town as soon as possible. Because for some of the days the pilgrims will be very huge and there will restrictions on the Girivalam
