In India, Chidambaram temple is the only temple which celebrates Lord Shiva in the form of Nataraja.

The Chidambaram temple will be performing 6 Maha Abhisheam for the Lord of Nataraja every year. The Six Maha Abhishekam is an important festival for the devotees of the Chidambaram temple

For the year 2022 – 2023, the Maha Abhishekam dates are as below. The year is followed as per the Tamil Calendar. And hence the dates are also decided accordingly.

  • 24.04.2022: Sunday, 6.00 pm Chithirai Onam – Kanaka Sabhai
  • 06.07.2022: Wednesday, 3.30 Am Aanithirumanjanam – Raja Sabhai
  • 09.09.2022: Friday, 6.00 pm Aavani Chathurdhasi – Kanaka Sabhai
  • 08.10.2022: Saturday, 6.00 pm Purattasi Chathurdhasi – Kanaka Sabhai
  • 06.01.2023: Friday, 3.30 Am Aardhraa Abhishekam – Raja Sabhai
  • 05.03.2023: Sunday, 6.00 Am Maasi Chathurdhasi – Kanaka Sabhai

The pilgrims will be allowed to go to the temple and attend the seva on this day of the Abhishekam. The tickets will be released online for the pilgrims before some days and can be booked. For some days, online booking will not be allowed. However, the pilgrims can directly go to the temple and can book the temple tickets. But most of these tickets will be provided based on the recommendation and also for VIP.

  • The pilgrims can expect the crowd to be more during the Abhishekam festival. The abhishekam will be performed on the above dates and timings and at the respective venues.
  • Sometimes, the venues might be changed and the pilgrims can get the details of the sam at the temple counter.
