The full moon that comes in the Shukla Paksha of Kartik month is called Kartik Purnima. On this day Mahadev Ji killed a demon named Tripurasur, hence it is also called ‘Tripuri Purnima’. If there is Kritika Nakshatra on this day then it is ‘Mahakartiki’. On the other hand, when there is Bharani Nakshatra, special results of this full moon are obtained. Its importance increases due to Rohini Nakshatra.
It is believed that on the evening of Kartik Purnima, the Matsya incarnation of Lord Vishnu took place. On this day, after bathing in the Ganges, the result of donating a lamp is equivalent to ten yagyas. Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, Angira and Aditya have called it a Mahapunit festival.

- On the full moon day, wake up early in the morning and take a vow of fasting and take a bath in a holy river, lake or pool.
