Telangana is ready for the Bathukamma festival. The Bathukamma celebrations, which started on Mahalaya Amavasya, end on Ashvayuja Ashtami. These nine days are measured as bathukamma in Telangana women’s daily form. When we hear the word Bathukamma, the first thing that comes to our mind is flowers and offerings.

This festival is celebrated for nine days, except for one day, on the remaining eight days, different kinds of offerings are offered. In the nine-day Bathukamma festival, the first-day Bathukamma is called Angilipuvu Bathukamma and the last day of Bathukamma is called Saddula Bathukamma.

Below are the details of the Nine days Nivedyaly recipes of the Bathukamma festival.

1. Angili Pula Bathukamma: Mahalaya Amavasya day. It is also known as Petramasa in Telangana. Sesame seeds, rice flour and nuts are mixed and offered as an offering.

2. Atukula Bathukamma : It is done on Ashvayuja Suddha Padyami. An offering is made of sappidi pappu, jaggery and atuku and offered to the goddess.

3. Muddapappu Bathukamma : An offering is made with muddapappu, milk and jaggery.

4. Nane Rice Bathukamma: Soaked rice, milk and jaggery should be reported as an offering.

5. Atla Bathukamma: Atlu or dosha is offered as oblation.

6. Aligina Bathukamma: Ashvayuja Panchami. No offering will be made today.

7. Vepakayala Bathukamma: Fried rice flour is made into neem fruits and offered as an offering.

8. Vennamuddala Bathukamma: Sesame seeds, butter or ghee mixed with jaggery is prepared as an offering.

9. Saddula Bathukamma: Durgashtami is celebrated on Ashvayuja Ashtami on the same day. Five types of offerings namely perugannam, tamarind pulihora, cobbarannam, and sesame seeds should be prepared and reported as offerings.

Women who worship Bathukamma for nine days take a dip in the pond on the last day of Saddula Bathukamma. They go in a procession with mela talas and join the goddess in the Gangamma. Women apply gauramamma made of turmeric to their cheeks which is placed over bathukamma made of flowers. Because of this, they believe that their mangalya means that their husband will be protected from danger and will look cool. It is auspicious if you make Malida with bread, jaggery or sugar and distribute it to everyone.

Malida Laddu- Required Ingredients.

  • Wheat flour- 1 cup
  • Jaggery- 1/2 cup
  • Cashew nuts, raisins, cardamom powder
  • Milk – 1 tbsp.
  • Ghee – 1 tbsp.
  • Water is enough

Process of Preparation

First, mix the flour gently. Roll small pieces into chapatis. Cut them into pieces and put them in a pan on a low flame. Add jaggery, cashew nut, raisins, cardamom powder to it and add ghee and mix well. Be careful not to ask. Add milk and make brownies.
