The Mysore Dussehra festival has a history of hundreds of years. During these ten-day long festivals, the pujas and processions also impress the foreigners of the country. Historical evidence suggests that Dussehra celebrations were started here by the kings of Vijayanagara in the 15th century. After the fall of the Vijayanagara Empire, the Udayars, the kings of Mysore, started Dussehra celebrations in Srirangapatna. During the Dussehra festival, Mysore Palace and Chamundi Hill are lit up with lamp lights. Tourists show great enthusiasm to visit Mysore during this time.

In 1805, Krishnaraja Udayar III started holding a special Rajdarbar in the Mysore Palace during Dussehra celebrations. Since then it has become a custom.. Even today the descendants continue to hold private Darbhar On Maharnavami, the ninth day of Navratri, the king’s sword is brought along with elephants, horses and camels in a procession and worship is performed. A large number of devotees flock to Mysore Palace and Chamundeshwari Temple to witness the Maharnavami festivities.

The tourists and visitors will not be allowed inside the palace on 05 October 2022
