Tirumala Accommodation Allotment Procedure ARP Counter Room

Shiva Venkateswara Sharma Dec 7, 2022 Updated Jul 6, 2026 6 min read

How does TTD accommodation allotment work at Tirumala? There are two routes: an online advance quota booked through the official TTD portal (ttdevasthanams.ap.gov.in), and current (spot) booking at the Central Reception Office (CRO) near the Tirumala bus stand for pilgrims who arrive without a reservation. In both cases the actual room is allotted only after you reach Tirumala and report at the designated counter with your original photo ID. Rooms are held for a 24-hour stay, most attract a refundable caution deposit, and staying beyond the permitted time invites steep enhanced-rent penalties. Here is exactly how the process works.

The two ways TTD allots accommodation at Tirumala

TTD manages thousands of guest-house rooms, cottages and choultries across the Sri Padmavathi, Sri Venkateswara and Varahaswami guest-house areas, plus free choultry rooms for families. Demand far exceeds supply during weekends and festival days, so understanding the allotment channel that suits you is the single most useful thing a pilgrim can do.

1. Online advance quota

TTD releases a block of rooms for online advance booking roughly three months ahead through the official portal. Because the quota is limited, released rooms are typically booked within minutes of going live. To book, you create/log in to your TTD account, choose Tirumala, pick a room category and pay the tariff (and caution deposit where applicable) online. You are issued an online booking receipt / reservation confirmation — this is not the room itself. The room number is assigned only when you report in person at Tirumala.

2. Current booking at the CRO counter

Pilgrims who could not get the online quota can try current (on-the-spot) booking at the Central Reception Office (CRO), located near the Tirumala bus stand at the entrance to the hill town. A limited number of rooms are released here each day on a first-come, first-served basis; they are in heavy demand, so pilgrims often queue in the early hours. Allotment at the CRO is now integrated with facial recognition, and the number of rooms you can hold within a set window is capped per person to curb misuse. Bring your original ID; the counter staff verify it before allotting a room.

Step-by-step: reporting for your allotted room

  • If you booked online, carry a printout (or digital copy) of the online booking receipt to Tirumala.
  • Report at the counter indicated on your receipt (near the CRO / reception complex) at the reporting time shown.
  • Submit the booking receipt along with the original photo ID of the person in whose name the booking was made.
  • After verification, the room details and location are confirmed to you — pilgrims typically receive the room allotment message on the registered mobile number.
  • Proceed to the assigned rest house / guest house and collect the keys from that block’s office.
  • The 24-hour stay clock starts from the time of allotment/check-in.

ID proof and occupancy rules

A valid government photo ID (Aadhaar is the most widely accepted) is mandatory for both booking and check-in, and the ID must match the lead guest’s name on the reservation. TTD accommodation is meant for families and groups of pilgrims: rooms are generally not allotted to a single person, and not to unmarried couples. Plan on a minimum of two eligible guests per room and carry ID for the members staying.

24-hour stay, overstay penalties and deposit

Every TTD room is allotted for a 24-hour period. To keep rooms circulating among the huge pilgrim flow, the administration enforces enhanced-rent penalties on guests who do not vacate on time.

ItemRule (as published by TTD)
Standard stay24 hours from allotment/check-in
Overstay beyond 48 hours200% enhanced rent
Overstay beyond 72 hours400% enhanced rent
Caution depositRefundable; typically around ₹500–₹1000 where applicable (see note)
Booking channelsOnline advance quota (portal) + current booking (CRO counter)
OccupancyFamilies/groups; not single persons or unmarried couples

The caution deposit is collected in addition to the room tariff and is refundable on check-out, provided there is no damage or dues. Refunds are processed back to the original payment source and can take about 7–15 working days. Deposit amounts vary by category, and TTD has at times waived the caution deposit on common-pool rooms — so treat the ₹500–₹1000 figure as indicative and confirm the current deposit and tariff for your chosen category on the official portal at the time of booking.

Room categories and tariffs

Tirumala offers a wide spread — from free choultry accommodation for families to low-cost rooms and higher-category cottages/suites. Paid tariffs commonly range from budget rooms in the low hundreds of rupees up to a couple of thousand rupees for larger cottages, and exact rates depend on the guest-house block and facilities. Because TTD revises categories and tariffs periodically, check the live list on the official portal rather than relying on a fixed price.

Practical tips

  • For a confirmed room, the online advance quota is the most reliable — but you must act the moment the quota opens.
  • If you arrive without a booking, head to the CRO early; spot rooms are limited and go quickly.
  • Keep the lead guest’s original ID handy — it is checked at allotment.
  • Note your check-in time and vacate within 24 hours to avoid enhanced-rent penalties.
  • Do not book through unofficial agents or reseller sites; use only the official TTD portal and counters.
