Tirupati Gangamma Jatara 2018 Dates Schedule

Tirupati Gangamma Jatara is the most auspicious annual festival held in Tirupati in the Month of May every year. This festival is a celebration to the goddess Gangamma, the Gramadevata of Tirupati. And formally, the Goddess in referred as “Sri Thathaya Gunta Gangamma”. 

History:

The history of Gangamma Jatara dates back to several hundred years. The story is like once upon a time tirupati and its surroundings where ruled by chieftains called Palegallu. They used to treat women badly and harass them. It is said that lord Gangamma has killed him and made Tirupati to get rid of him. 2 mark account of this occasion, the Tirupati Gangamma Jatara is celebrated for 7 days.




That starts with a formal announcement called Chatimpu. The Jatara is held by Theallaya Mirasi Achari family who take care of all arrangements and take charge of Jatra festival. The Gangamma Jatara is a very famous local festival for the People of Tirupati. It is done every year in May. As the Gangamma temple was in banks of Thathaya gunta, the temple is famous as “Thathaya Gunta Gangamma Temple”.

The Festival:

The festival starts on the day of Chatimpu and is celebrated for a span of 7 days as below

May 08 2018 – Day 0: Chatimpu
May 09 2018 – Day 1: Bhairagi Vesham
May 10 2018 – Day 2: Banda Vesham
May 11 2018 – Day 3: Thoti Vesham
May 12 2018 – Day 4: Sunnapu Gandalu
May 13 2018 – Day 5: Dora Vesham
May 14 2018 – Day 6: Mathangi Vesham
May 15 2018 – Day 7: Gangamma Jatara

Darshan and Address

The Jatara usually draw thousands of pilgrims who visits the temple and get blessed from the Goddesses. The darshan is free of cost and anyone can visit the temple during this time.
