TTD Darshan Required Documents Tirumala

Shiva Venkateswara Jan 27, 2022 Updated Jul 6, 2026 7 min read

The one document you cannot travel without is an
original government-issued photo ID

— for most Indian pilgrims that means the Aadhaar card.
The name, photo and ID number on it must match exactly what you entered while
booking. If you booked online, also carry a
printed copy of your darshan ticket. For paid darshan such as
the ₹300 Special Entry Darshan, and for TTD accommodation, that original
ID is also used for biometric (fingerprint) verification at
the entry point. Photocopies, screenshots and expired IDs are not accepted.
The essentials, and the rules for children, NRIs and specific sevas, are set
out below.

Lakhs of devotees visit Tirumala to have darshan of Lord Sri Venkateswara, and
Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) links every ticket to a named pilgrim and
an ID number to stop black-marketing. Getting your documents right before you
leave home is the single best way to avoid being turned back at the queue
after a long journey.

Documents you must carry for Tirumala darshan

  • Original photo ID for every adult — Aadhaar card is
the safest choice for Indian citizens.
  • The same ID whose details you entered during booking (it
must match, not just be “any” ID).
  • Printed darshan ticket if you booked online, one per
    person.
  • ID / age proof for children travelling with you (Aadhaar of
    the child is best).
  • Passport if you are an NRI or a foreign national.

Which photo IDs does TTD accept?

During booking you enter one photo-ID proof for each pilgrim, and you then
carry that same original document on the day. TTD accepts the standard set of
government-issued photo IDs. In practice, Aadhaar is used by the overwhelming
majority of pilgrims because it also supports the biometric check at entry.

DocumentAccepted?Used forNotes
Aadhaar cardYes — recommendedDarshan, seva, accommodation Preferred ID; enables fingerprint/biometric verification for paid
darshan and room check-in. Carry the original.
Voter ID (EPIC)YesDarshan, accommodationWidely accepted for Indian residents. Original only.
PassportYesDarshan, seva, accommodationThe standard ID for NRIs and foreign nationals.
Driving LicenceYesDarshan, accommodationAccepted as a government photo ID. Must be valid (not expired).
PAN cardYes, at bookingDarshan booking Can be entered while booking; still carry a strong photo/address ID like
Aadhaar for entry checks.
Child’s Aadhaar / age proofYesChildren below 12 Under-12s generally need no separate darshan ticket, but carry the
child’s ID/age proof.
Photocopy / screenshot / expired IDNo Not accepted under any circumstances. Original, valid documents only.

The ID at entry must match the one used at booking

This is the rule pilgrims most often get wrong. Whatever ID you enter while
booking — the person’s name spelling, photo and ID number —
is the ID you must present at the counter and entry point. If you book on one
person’s Aadhaar but that person carries a different ID (or a different
family member turns up), entry can be refused even though the ticket is paid.
Book in the traveller’s own name, enter the details carefully, and note
that
booking details cannot be edited after the booking is confirmed. Each pilgrim should carry their own matching original ID.

Biometric verification for ₹300 Special Entry Darshan

For paid darshan such as the
₹300 Special Entry Darshan (Seeghra/Sudarsanam-linked entry)
and for Slotted Sarva Darshan (SSD) tokens, TTD carries out
biometric verification at entry — typically a
fingerprint scan linked to your Aadhaar, along with a photo capture. This is
why the original Aadhaar is strongly advised for these categories: the
physical card is checked against the biometric record. Pilgrims usually report
at the Vaikuntam Queue Complex (VQC-II) and are asked to
arrive around 30 minutes before the allotted slot. Carry the printed
₹300 ticket plus the original ID used at booking.

Dress code for special entry darshan

A traditional dress code applies for special entry darshan
and sevas. Men are expected to wear a dhoti/pancha (with an upper cloth) or
kurta-pyjama; women wear a saree, half-saree or salwar-kameez. Western casual
wear such as shorts, mini-skirts, sleeveless tops and Bermudas is discouraged
at the temple.

Documents for TTD accommodation

Rooms and cottages are booked in the primary guest’s name using their
Aadhaar number, date of birth and mobile number. At check-in you must produce
the
printed/downloaded confirmation slip and the original ID proof of the
guests

— at minimum the primary guest. TTD is strict here:
failure to show the correct original ID, or reporting after your check-in
slot, can lead to cancellation of the booking

without refund. Keep every original ID together in one folder for the whole
trip, not just for the darshan queue.

Documents for sevas and Arjita sevas

Booked sevas and Arjita sevas follow the same principle as darshan: carry the
printed seva ticket and the
original ID of the person in whose name it was booked. Some
sevas have their own dress code and reporting time printed on the ticket
— read the ticket carefully and reach the reporting point early. If
different family members hold different seva or darshan tickets, each person
must carry their own matching original ID.

Children, NRIs and foreign nationals

  • Children below 12 years generally do not need a separate
darshan ticket when accompanying booked adults, but carrying the
child’s Aadhaar or an age proof avoids questions at the queue.
  • NRIs and foreign nationals should use their
passport as the photo ID for booking and entry. TTD also
runs dedicated NRI/foreigner darshan facilities; the passport is the
    accepted identity document there.

A note on COVID-era rules

Vaccination certificates, negative RT-PCR reports and e-passes that were
required during the pandemic are no longer in force for
Tirumala darshan. You do not need to carry any COVID-related document today.
Ignore older articles that still list them.

Quick checklist before you leave home

  • Original photo ID for each adult, matching the booking (Aadhaar preferred).
  • Printed darshan and seva tickets, one per person (soft copy alone is not
    reliable at counters).
  • Accommodation confirmation slip plus original ID of the primary guest.
  • Child’s Aadhaar/age proof; passport for NRIs and foreign nationals.
  • A spare printout and your booking reference kept separately, in case one
    copy is lost.

Frequently asked questions

Is Aadhaar compulsory for Tirumala darshan?

Aadhaar is not the only accepted ID — voter ID, passport and driving
licence are also valid — but it is effectively essential for paid
darshan (₹300 special entry, SSD tokens) and accommodation because the
original card is used for biometric fingerprint verification. For Indian
pilgrims, carrying the original Aadhaar is the simplest way to be safe.

Can I show the ID on my phone instead of the original card?

No. TTD requires the original physical document at entry and at accommodation
check-in. Screenshots, photocopies and expired IDs are not accepted.

What happens if my ID does not match the booking?

Entry can be refused. The name, photo and ID number must match what was
entered at booking. Because booking details cannot be edited later, enter them
carefully and carry that exact same original ID.

Do children need any documents?

Children below 12 usually do not need a separate darshan ticket when with
booked adults, but carry the child’s Aadhaar or an age proof to avoid
delays.

Which ID should NRIs and foreigners carry?

The passport is the accepted identity document for NRIs and foreign nationals,
both at booking and at entry.

Are COVID vaccination or test certificates still needed?

No. Those pandemic-era requirements have been withdrawn and are not needed for
darshan today.
