Venkateswara is the living God of Kaliyuga who is loved by everyone all over the world. That is why for 365 days in a year all the hills of Tirumala resound with the name of Govinda. According to the Puranas, this Brahmotsavam was actually started by Lord Brahma himself to serve Lord Venkanna who shines on the seven hills.

There is also some evidence that this is happening since about a thousand years ago. Once these festivals were held every month. But now it happens once a year.. during Dussehra Navratri. Since then, Brahmotsavams have been held grandly for 9 days before the completion of the Sravana Nakshatra in Kanyama (Ashwayujam) which appeared in the presence of Lord Venkateswara according to the order of Swami.
