Manokamna Bhawan Room Online Booking Vaishno Devi Distance
Editor’s Note: This is an independent pilgrim-information
guide. tirumalatirupationline.com is not affiliated with, endorsed
by, or connected to the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board (SMVDSB) or any
government body. All accommodation and yatra registration is handled solely
by the Shrine Board through its official website. We do not book rooms, take
payments, or act as an agent.
How is Manokamna Bhawan accommodation booked at Vaishno Devi?
Manokamna Bhawan is one of the pilgrim rest facilities near the
Bhawan — the area around the holy cave of Mata Vaishno Devi
at the top of the Trikuta hills. Like every other room and dormitory on the
yatra route, it is owned and run by the
Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, and accommodation can be
reserved
only through the Board’s official website,
maavaishnodevi.org
(bookings and services run on the portal at
online.maavaishnodevi.org).
The Shrine Board has publicly stated that it has
not authorised any private agent or third-party site to book
its rooms, dormitories, helicopter tickets or battery cars. If you plan to
stay near the Bhawan, book directly on the official portal and treat any other
“booking” website or middleman with caution.
Where Manokamna Bhawan sits on the yatra route
The traditional trek to the Bhawan begins at the
Banganga checkpoint in Katra and runs roughly
12–14 km uphill. Two key waypoints along the way are
Ardhkuwari, near the midpoint of the climb, and
Sanjichhat, which lies about
2.5 km short of the Bhawan. Manokamna Bhawan is part of the
cluster of Shrine Board accommodation at the Bhawan itself, which is why
yatris often choose it: after a long trek or a helicopter ride to Sanjichhat,
it lets you rest close to the cave and take darshan without another long walk.
Because it sits at the top of the route, availability is tight during peak
months, so an early reservation on the official portal is sensible.
Yatra Parchi: the one registration every pilgrim must have first
Before you think about a room, remember the single most important rule of this
yatra:
every pilgrim, without exception, must register and obtain a Yatra Parchi
before starting the trek.
The Shrine Board describes itself as the
only statutory and legal authority for this registration, and it is
completely free. On registering, each pilgrim is issued an
RFID Yatra Access Card that acts as the documentary
permission to proceed toward the shrine and lets the Board track pilgrim
movement for safety.
You can complete the Yatra Parchi registration in two ways:
-
Online — free of charge through the official Shrine Board
website before you travel. -
In person — at the Yatra Registration Counter (YRC) near
the Katra Bus Stand, or at YRC-II on Udhampur Road, roughly 1 km away.
Even if you register online, the physical RFID card is collected at the
counter, and you must cross the first checkpoint at
Banganga within 6 hours of the card being issued or it may be
cancelled. Keep the card with you for the whole journey and return it on the
way back.
Shrine Board accommodation at a glance
The Shrine Board runs rooms and dormitories at several points along the route
so pilgrims can break the journey where it suits them. Manokamna Bhawan is one
option at the Bhawan end; the table below shows how the Board’s accommodation
is spread out.
| Location on the route | Examples of Shrine Board facilities | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Jammu (city / near railway station) | Vaishnavi Dham, Saraswati Dham, Kalika Dham | Useful for arrival before heading to Katra |
| Katra (base town / bus stand) | Niharika Yatri Niwas, Shakti Bhawan, Ashirwad Bhawan, Trikuta Bhawan | Starting point of the trek; dormitory beds from ₹150 |
| Ardhkuwari (mid-route) | Rooms & dormitory | Dormitory beds from ₹150 |
| Sanjichhat (near helipad) | Rooms & dormitory | About 2.5 km below the Bhawan |
| Bhawan (top / near holy cave) | Manokamna Bhawan and other Board blocks | Dormitory beds from ₹150; closest to darshan |
Published dormitory rates are ₹150 per bed at Katra,
Ardhkuwari and the Bhawan. Room categories, tariffs and availability vary by
block and season, so confirm the current rate and room type for Manokamna
Bhawan on the official portal at the time of booking rather than relying on
any figure quoted by a third party.
How to reserve a room the official way
The process on the Shrine Board’s own channels is straightforward:
-
Go to the official website
maavaishnodevi.org and open the
accommodation / online-services section. -
Choose your location (for a stay near the cave, look for Bhawan-area blocks
such as Manokamna Bhawan), your dates and the number of rooms or dormitory
beds. -
Check live availability, then complete the reservation with an online
payment on the official portal. -
Reservations can also be made in person at the Board’s Enquiry &
Reservation counter in the Niharika Complex at Katra, or at individual
guest-house receptions, subject to availability.
Rooms near the Bhawan are limited and demand is highest on weekends, holidays
and during festival seasons, so plan ahead and, where possible, travel on
weekdays for an easier stay. The Shrine Board opens accommodation booking a
set period in advance; the exact window can change, so check the current
booking calendar on the official site.
Frequently asked questions
Can I book Manokamna Bhawan through a private agent or another website?
No. The Shrine Board has stated it has not authorised any third party or agent
to book its rooms, dormitories, helicopter or battery-car services. Book only
on the official portal,
online.maavaishnodevi.org.
Do I need a Yatra Parchi to stay at the Bhawan?
You need the Yatra Parchi and RFID card to undertake the yatra itself, which
is what gets you to the Bhawan. Registration is mandatory for every pilgrim
and is free, done online or at the YRC counters in Katra.
How much does a dormitory bed cost?
Published Shrine Board dormitory rates are ₹150 per bed at Katra, Ardhkuwari
and the Bhawan. Room tariffs differ by block and season — confirm the live
rate on the official website.
How far is the Bhawan from Katra?
The trek from Banganga in Katra to the Bhawan is roughly 12–14 km. Ardhkuwari
is near the midpoint and Sanjichhat is about 2.5 km below the Bhawan.
Is the Yatra Parchi really free?
Yes. The Shrine Board describes registration as entirely free and calls itself
the only statutory and legal authority to issue it. Any site charging a
“registration fee” is not the official channel.
When should I book a room near the Bhawan?
As early as the official booking window allows, especially for weekends,
holidays and festival periods when beds near the cave sell out quickly. Check
the current advance-booking calendar on the official portal.
