West Bengal to celebrate Durga Devi Navratri with grandeur this year. The government is ready for the Durga Devi festival celebrations. Although this annual festival is celebrated in many parts of the country, it is specially celebrated in Kolkata. During this ten-day-long festival, deities are beautifully decorated. An idol of Durga Devi is made from clay brought by the river Ganges.

From September 30 2022 to October 10 2022, Government Holidays have been announced for the Durga Pooja Holidays. It means that government employees will have holidays for 11 consecutive days.

  • Devotees of Goddess wait a whole year for the Dussehra festival. Dasara festival is celebrated for nine days from Ashvayuja Shuddha Padyami to Ashvayuja Shuddha Navami along with Vijaya Dashami on the tenth day of Devi Navratri.
  • Navratras are considered to be most auspicious, and fruitful for the practice of Shakti. Devotees of Goddess Durga celebrate the Navratri festival four times a year.
  • Along with Chaitra Navratri and Sharannavaratra, two Gupta Navaratras also occur. Out of these four, Sharanna Navratri is celebrated with the greatest pomp. This year the holy festival of Navratri will start on 26th September 2022 and will continue till 05th October 2022.
  • On the first day of the Durga Pooja, a Kalash is set up for worshipping the Goddess. This Kalash is worshipped for nine days as part of Shakti worship.
  • Devotees wake up early in the morning before sunrise on the first day of Navratras to worship Devi, after bathing and meditation, fast for nine days of Navratri and ritually install the Kalash at an auspicious time. Offering fruits, flowers etc. to Goddess Durga, worshipping Goddess Durga with mantra stotras etc.
  • Recite Durga Saptashati every day during Navratri, especially in Ammavari Puja. After this, according to your tradition, on Ashtami or Navami day, worship the Goddess.. also worship the nine girls especially. Feed the girls with puree, gram flour, payasam etc. Give Dakshina according to your power and take their blessings and send them away with respect. Then break the fast.
