About the temple
Kanipakam is one of the most revered Ganesha shrines in Andhra Pradesh and a natural add-on for pilgrims already visiting Tirumala and Tirupati. The presiding deity, Sri Varasidhi Vinayaka Swamy, is a swayambhu idol that, according to temple tradition, was discovered in a well by three brothers who were miraculously cured. Devotees widely believe the idol is slowly growing in size — a kavacham (armour) donated decades ago is said to no longer fit. The temple is also known as a place where oaths are taken, and disputes are traditionally settled before the deity.
Darshan timings
The temple generally opens around 4:00 AM and closes by about 9:30 PM, with darshan available in morning and evening sessions and a midday break in ritual timings. Typical timings reported by pilgrims are:
- Morning darshan: from about 6:00 AM through the late morning
- Evening darshan: from about 6:30–6:45 PM until roughly 9:00–9:30 PM
Waiting times are usually shorter on weekday mornings and considerably longer on weekends, Tuesdays, Thursdays and festival days. During Vinayaka Chaturthi and the annual Brahmotsavam, lakhs of devotees visit and waits can stretch to several hours. Timings shift during festivals, so treat the above as a general guide and confirm on the day.
Sevas and poojas
The devasthanam conducts a full daily cycle of sevas. Commonly listed rituals and their approximate timings include:
| Seva | Approx. timing |
|---|---|
| Suprabhatham & Bindu Theertha Abhishekam | 4:00–5:00 AM |
| Nijaroopa Darshanam | 5:00–5:30 AM |
| Special / Panchamrutha Abhishekam | 5:30–6:00 AM |
| Ganapathi Homam | Morning |
| Poolangi / special seva (specific weekdays) | Morning |
| Kalyanotsavam | Late morning |
| Ksheerabhishekam / Palabhishekam | 7:30–8:00 AM & 5:45–6:15 PM |
| Maha Harathi | Evening (around 6:15–6:45 PM) |
| Ekantha Seva | Around 9:00–9:30 PM |
Free (Sarva) darshan is available to all. Paid special-darshan and various seva tickets are offered, and many sevas can be booked in advance through the official devasthanam portal, which also lists the current ticket amounts. Because seva rates and slot availability are revised from time to time, we have deliberately not fixed exact prices here — the official portal shows the live rates and which sevas are open for booking.
Accommodation at Kanipakam
The devasthanam operates pilgrim accommodation close to the temple, and rooms are listed on the official AP Endowments (AP Temples) booking system. Room categories, occupancy and tariffs are set by the devasthanam and are displayed on that portal at the time of booking. Rather than quote figures that may be out of date, we recommend checking the live list, where you can see the available room types, per-night rents and any refundable deposit before you reserve.
A few practical points to keep in mind:
- Devasthanam rooms near the temple are limited in number and fill up quickly around Vinayaka Chaturthi, Brahmotsavam and long weekends. Reserve well ahead for peak dates.
- If devasthanam rooms are unavailable, Chittoor town (about 12 km away) has a wider choice of budget and mid-range hotels, and Tirupati is within easy reach for those combining both temples.
- Always complete accommodation bookings only through the official devasthanam / AP Temples portal, and keep your booking reference for check-in.
The official accommodation page for the temple is on the AP Temples (Endowments) system: tms.ap.gov.in — Kanipakam accommodation. The devasthanam’s own site is srikanipakadevasthanam.org.
