Spirituality at every step is the temple of Mahalakshmi Sannidhi in Kolhapur, Maharashtra. It is said that compared to all the Mahalakshmi temples in our country, this Kshetra has a lot of uniqueness. It is said that Sati Devi fell here, hence this temple is one of the Ashtadasha Shaktipeeths. Although this temple has existed since about six thousand years ago, there is no clear evidence as to when and who built it. History tells us that Jagadguru Adisankaracharya, Chhatrapati Shivaji and many other kings visited this goddess on the banks of Panchganga river.   • It is said that Goddess Lakshmi also lifted up this area with her hands a few thousand years ago, just as Lord Shiva protected Kashikshetra during the deluge. That is why the devotees here call the goddess Karaveera Mahalakshmi. Once Bhrigu Maharshi came to visit Lord Vishnumurthy.

After that many kings developed this region. Similarly once Agastya Muni, asked Lord Shiva to show another shrine as an alternative to Kashi. It is said that Lord Shiva showed Kolhapur, If you go to this temple, you will get the merit of visiting Kashi and Devi is mentioned in Bhagavata along with Padma, Skanda and other eighteen Puranas.
