Diwali is the day after Naraka Chaturdashi. Naraka is born to Varahaswamy and Bhudevi during Asura Sandhya. Bhudevi gets a boon to die in their mother’s hands as immortality in the hands of Lord Vishnu, the devil of the world. Goddess Lakshmi should be worshipped on the day of Diwali. There are certain rules while worshipping Lakshmi, who is said to be the goddess of wealth and prosperity.

Pooja should start in the evening. It is tradition to worship Ganesha in every Pooja of Diwali. Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped along with Vigneshwara. As part of Lakshmi Puja, Lord Ganesha is first measured with turmeric. Light the lamp and start the puja with mantra.

  • Diwali Routine: It is good to get up early in the morning and take a bath. If not wearing new clothes, it is better to wear clean clothes. Don’ts: Consuming alcohol, and taking naps during the day.
  • Arrangements at home: Arches should be placed on doorposts, and God’s image should be decorated with flowers and worshipped at home. Method of worship: A red cloth should be spread in the puja mandir at home, alms should be poured on it, and the Kalash should be decorated with thread and installed with a coconut. Photos of Goddess Lakshmi should be posted. Amma should dress them with accessories such as bite mirror, wooden comb, red bangles etc.
  • Abhishekam should be done with Panchamrita i.e. abhishekam with cow’s milk, cow’s curd, cow’s ghee, honey and sugar.
  • The offerings to be made to Amma are coconut, bananas, plantain, panchaphalam, i.e. five types of fruits should be reported to Lord.
  • At home, a red cloth should be spread in the puja mandir, grain should be poured on it, the Kalash should be decorated with thread and coconut should be installed. Photos of Goddess Lakshmi should be posted.
  • The offerings to be made to Amma are coconut, bananas, plantain, panchaphalam, i.e. five types of fruits should be reported to Amma. Worshipping Goddess Lakshmi with Maredu Patri is more auspicious. Lakshmi Devi Mangala Harati should be sung with Camphor Harati. If it is a business house, it should be struck with a good gourd.
