Sree Tirumala Kashi Math — Pilgrim Information Guide

The Sree Tirumala Kashi Math is a Tirumala branch of the
Shree Kashi Math Samsthan (SKMS), the centuries-old Gaud
Saraswat Brahmin (GSB) Vaishnava monastic institution headquartered at Brahma
Ghat, Varanasi. Its guest house on the hill exists mainly to serve GSB and
Vaishnava pilgrims who visit Tirumala for darshan of Sri Venkateswara. Rooms
here are meant for devotees of the math’s own community rather than the
general public, and accommodation is arranged directly through the math’s own
official channel — not through TTD or any third-party booking site. This guide
explains, in plain terms, what the Kashi Math at Tirumala is, who it serves,
and how devotees can find verified information about staying there.
What is the Sree Tirumala Kashi Math?
The Shree Kashi Math Samsthan is one of the principal spiritual seats (matha)
followed by the Gaud Saraswat Brahmin community, a Vaishnava Madhwa tradition.
The math was established at Varanasi (Kashi) in 1542 CE and traces an unbroken
line of pontiffs. Its present head is
Shrimat Samyamindra Teertha Swamiji, the 21st mathadhipati,
who assumed the seat on 28 January 2016, succeeding Shrimat Sudhindra Teertha
Swamiji. The Samsthan maintains branches and temples across the Konkan coast
and beyond — including Varanasi, Udupi, Mangalore, Kochi and other centres —
and opened dedicated facilities at Tirumala and Tirupati so that visiting
devotees would have a place to stay near the hill temple.
The Tirumala and Tirupati branches were inaugurated on
13 April 2015. The math describes their purpose plainly: to
fulfil the needs of GSB pilgrims visiting the abode of Lord Venkataramana on
the seven hills. Locally, pilgrims often refer to the math by the short form
SKMS Mutt.

Accommodation for devotees
The math runs guest-house accommodation at both its Tirumala and Tirupati
locations for pilgrims of its community. According to the Samsthan’s own
announcement, the
Tirupati branch guest house has 34 rooms, of which 9 are
air-conditioned, and includes a temple dedicated to Sri-Bhoo Sahitha Lord Venkataramana on
the premises. The Tirumala branch on the hill was renovated and made
operational for devotees around the same period.
Beyond these officially published figures, details such as the exact room
categories, bed configurations, tariffs and dining arrangements at Tirumala
can change over time and are not consistently published in one place. Rather
than rely on second-hand figures, devotees should confirm the current room
types and any charges directly on the math’s official portal before planning a
stay. As a general rule for Tirumala mutts, accommodation is offered to
devotees of the respective community, and rooms fill quickly during festival
days, weekends and the Brahmotsavam season.
How devotees find and confirm a stay
-
Accommodation at community mutts like the Kashi Math is arranged through the
managing body’s own official channel — for the Kashi Math,
that is
kashimath.org. It is not booked through the TTD accommodation system. -
The Samsthan operates an online seva and devotee-services portal for its
temples; current room-availability practice, eligibility and any payment
steps should be checked there, as policies are updated from time to time. -
Availability is tightest during peak pilgrimage periods. Devotees planning
to visit on festival or weekend dates are advised to check well in advance. -
Because these are community facilities, priority is given to GSB / Vaishnava
devotees; confirm eligibility on the official channel rather than assuming a
room is open to all.
Reaching Tirumala
The Kashi Math’s Tirumala guest house sits within the cluster of mutts on the
hill, close to other community mathas near the Tirumala–Tirupati road.
Pilgrims typically reach Tirumala from Tirupati by TTD/APSRTC bus up the ghat
road, by the free divya darshan walk route, or by private/hired vehicle. The
nearest railhead is Tirupati and the nearest airport is Tirupati (Renigunta),
with Tirumala about 20–22 km uphill from Tirupati town.
| From | How to reach Tirumala |
|---|---|
| Tirupati town | APSRTC/TTD ghat-road buses, taxi, or the footpath walk route |
| Tirupati Railway Station | Rail to Tirupati, then bus/taxi up the hill (~20–22 km) |
| Tirupati (Renigunta) Airport | Airport to Tirupati, then ghat road to Tirumala |
