Thiruparankundram Temple Abhishekam Online Booking Timings

Shiva Venkateswara Mar 24, 2023 Updated Jul 6, 2026 6 min read

Short answer: At the Arulmigu Subramaniyaswamy Temple, Thiruparankundram (Madurai), abhishekam and archanai are conducted as part of the temple’s daily pooja schedule, which begins with the early-morning Thiruvananthal pooja around 5:30 AM. There is no separate, publicly ticketed “abhishekam online booking” queue at the temple gate for ordinary days — devotees participate through the day’s poojas, and special sevas, archanai and donations can be booked on the temple’s own official Tamil Nadu HR&CE portal. Because seva names, slots and fees are revised from time to time, always confirm the current list and price on the official portal before you travel.

Thiruparankundram Temple — Abhishekam and Seva at a Glance

Thiruparankundram is revered as the first of the six sacred abodes (Arupadai Veedu) of Lord Murugan. The rock-cut hill temple, roughly 8 km from Madurai Junction, is administered by the Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious & Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department under temple code TM031985. The main deity (Moolavar) is Subramaniyaswamy, with the Goddess Deivanai Amman; the same rock face also houses shrines to Shiva (Parangirinathar), Vishnu, Vinayakar and Durga. Abhishekam — the ritual bathing of the deity — forms part of the fixed daily pooja cycle rather than being an all-day, on-demand ticketed service.

Daily Pooja and Abhishekam Timings

The temple follows the traditional Agamic cycle of poojas through the day. Abhishekam and alangaram are performed for the deity within these poojas. Reported daily timings are set out below; treat them as indicative, as they can shift on festival days, Krithigai days and during special months.

Devotees who wish to witness the morning abhishekam are advised to reach the temple well before the Thiruvananthal or Kalasanthi pooja. The exact slot for any sponsored abhishekam or archanai you book will be shown against that seva on the official portal.

How the Booking Works — Online and In Person

There are two straightforward ways to arrange a seva:

  • Online: The temple has its own official HR&CE web portal at thiruparankundrammurugan.hrce.tn.gov.in, which offers online donation and archanai/seva booking, along with a quick-donation QR option. The state-wide HR&CE portal (tnhrce.gov.in) also hosts temple services. Use only these official government channels.
  • In person: Tickets for special darshan, archanai and available sevas can be purchased at the temple’s counter on the day of your visit. For ordinary days the crowd is manageable, so many devotees simply buy at the counter.

General darshan is free. A special darshan ticket (reported at around ₹100) lets you avoid the longer queue. Fees for individual sevas, abhishekam sponsorship and archanai are fixed by HR&CE and are revised periodically, so we are deliberately not quoting a fixed abhishekam price here — the current, correct amount is always the one displayed on the official portal or counter board.

What to Know Before You Go

  • Items required for a standard temple abhishekam are generally arranged by the temple; if you sponsor a specific seva, the portal or counter will tell you what, if anything, you need to bring.
  • Dress modestly and traditionally, as expected at Tamil Nadu temples.
  • Timings can change during major festivals such as Skanda Shashti (Oct–Nov), Panguni Uthiram (Feb–Mar), the summer Brahmotsavam and Kartikai Deepam; check the portal for festival schedules.
  • Reaching the temple: about 8 km from Madurai Junction and roughly 10 km from Madurai Airport, well connected by city buses, autos and taxis.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is online booking compulsory for abhishekam here?

No. Online booking through the official HR&CE portal is a convenience. On ordinary days the temple is not heavily crowded and tickets for available sevas can be bought at the counter. Online booking is more useful on festival days and weekends.

How much does an abhishekam or seva cost?

Seva and archanai fees are set by HR&CE and change from time to time, so we do not print a fixed figure. General darshan is free and a special darshan ticket has been reported at about ₹100. Check the current seva rate on the official portal before you travel.

Where is the official online portal?

The temple’s own official page is thiruparankundrammurugan.hrce.tn.gov.in, part of the Tamil Nadu HR&CE system (also reachable via hrce.tn.gov.in). Use only these government channels for donations and seva booking.

What are the temple darshan timings?

Broadly 5:30 AM to 1:00 PM in the morning and 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM in the evening, with the temple closed in the early afternoon. Festival days may vary.

How do I reach Thiruparankundram temple?

It is about 8 km from Madurai Junction railway station and around 10 km from Madurai International Airport, with regular city buses, auto-rickshaws and taxis serving the temple.

What We Kept General

Widely circulated figures such as a specific abhishekam ticket price or a fixed daily quantity of milk used in the abhishekam are not confirmed on the official HR&CE portal, so we have not stated them as fact. For the exact seva list, slot timings and fees, rely on the official portal on the day of your visit.
