Tirumala December 2026 Festivals: Vaikunta Ekadasi, Dhanurmasam & Tiruchanur Dates

Tirumala Editor Desk Oct 22, 2026 12 min read

Tirumala December 2026 festivals include the confirmed Tiruchanur Brahmotsavam and several important expected observances at Srivari Temple. The most anticipated date is Sunday, 20 December, for Vaikunta Ekadasi. However, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has not yet published its complete December festival programme.

For pilgrims, one distinction matters more than any festival chart: a confirmed event date does not mean darshan tickets or special entry arrangements are available. Here is the current calendar, with each event clearly marked by its confirmation status.

Independent guide: Tirumala Tirupati Online is not the official TTD website and is not affiliated with TTD. We accept no bookings, payments or donations. Please use the official TTD portal for reservations and announcements.

Tirumala December 2026 Festivals at a Glance

TTD confirmed the Tiruchanur Karthika Brahmotsavams for 5–14 December in its announcement dated 24 September 2026. Other dates below remain expected or subject to the temple’s final calendar. Therefore, do not treat a general panchang date as confirmation of a temple ceremony or darshan facility.

Calendar status: As of 22 October 2026, only the 5–14 December Tiruchanur Brahmotsavam window has confirmation from TTD among these event dates. Check TTD News before finalising travel around a specific ritual.

Tiruchanur Brahmotsavam: 5–14 December Confirmed

The Karthika Brahmotsavams of Sri Padmavathi Ammavaru will take place at Tiruchanur from 5 to 14 December 2026. TTD confirmed this window on 24 September while reviewing festival preparations. This is the clearest confirmed event in the regional December calendar.

TTD directed departments to prepare queue lines, barricades, LED displays, medical camps and traffic arrangements. The official review paid particular attention to Panchami Theertham, which traditionally attracts large numbers of devotees.

The arrangements matter because Tiruchanur and Tirumala are separate temple locations. A visit to Sri Padmavathi Ammavari Temple should therefore have its own travel allowance, especially during the festival period.

When is Panchami Theertham in 2026?

Panchami Theertham is expected on Monday, 14 December 2026, at the conclusion of Tiruchanur Brahmotsavam. The confirmed festival window ends that day. However, the final bathing ceremony arrangements, procession times and public access instructions require TTD’s detailed festival programme.

The observance traditionally centres on the sacred Pushkarini associated with Goddess Padmavathi. Yet devotees should not assume that the previous year’s timings or access routes will apply. Barricades, holding areas and crowd movement can change when TTD issues fresh instructions.

For the individual vahanams and festival traditions, read our Tiruchanur Brahmotsavam 2026 guide. The day-wise procession timetable should remain provisional until the official announcement appears.

Vaikunta Ekadasi 2026: Expected on 20 December

Vaikunta Ekadasi is expected on Sunday, 20 December 2026, according to available Vaishnava calendar references. Devotees also call the festival Mukkoti Ekadasi. Nevertheless, TTD has not yet issued the final Tirumala observance schedule or event-specific darshan rules for December.

This is an important distinction. A panchang can identify an Ekadasi tithi, but only TTD can confirm how Srivari Temple will conduct the festival. Exact opening times, access categories and token rules belong to that separate announcement.

What makes Vaikunta Ekadasi special at Tirumala?

Vaikunta Ekadasi is a major Sri Vaishnava observance dedicated to Lord Vishnu. At Tirumala, devotees associate it with entry through the Vaikunta Dwaram, also called the Uttara Dwaram. The passage carries deep spiritual meaning in tradition, but access depends on the temple’s official arrangements.

On previous occasions, TTD has conducted special Vaikunta Dwara darshan over a festival window. However, that history does not automatically establish the number of days, ticket categories or token procedure for December 2026.

Devotees should also distinguish ordinary darshan admission from the opportunity to pass through the Vaikunta Dwaram. A regular monthly ticket announcement is not, by itself, proof of access under the special festival system.

Will Vaikunta Dwara Darshan run for ten days?

A ten-day Vaikunta Dwara darshan period is expected based on TTD’s recent arrangements. If that pattern repeats, the window could run from 20 to 29 December 2026. These are projected dates, not an official programme, and the actual window may change.

For the previous festival cycle, TTD scheduled Vaikunta Dwara darshan from 30 December 2025 to 8 January 2026. That example explains the expectation, but it is not a new announcement.

Do not book a journey solely because another website has published a ten-day timetable. Instead, look for a dated TTD notice that explicitly describes the 2026 Vaikunta Dwara arrangements.

Dhanurmasam 2026: Tiruppavai and Morning Worship

Dhanurmasam is expected to begin around 16 December 2026 at Tirumala. It is an important period for early-morning worship and the recitation of Andal’s Tiruppavai. TTD has followed this practice in earlier years, but the current year’s detailed observance notice is still awaited.

The month corresponds to the Sun’s passage through Dhanu in the traditional solar calendar. Therefore, the beginning of Dhanurmasam does not depend on the date of Vaikunta Ekadasi alone.

During this period, Tirumala traditionally gives Tiruppavai a special place in its daily worship. Previous TTD reports describe the recitation in place of the customary Suprabhatam. The final operational details for 2026 must come from the temple.

Does Tiruppavai replace Suprabhatam during Dhanurmasam?

Yes, this is the established Dhanurmasam tradition described in earlier TTD communications. Tiruppavai, composed by Andal, forms a central part of the seasonal recitation. However, the precise 2026 commencement and conclusion dates, along with any changes to public seva arrangements, still need confirmation.

Pilgrims sometimes mistake this ritual change for a guarantee that a particular paid seva will operate or become available. It does not provide that guarantee. The temple’s worship schedule and its public ticket inventory are different matters.

Adhyayanotsavam 2026: Start Date Awaited

Adhyayanotsavam is the traditional recitation festival associated with the sacred Tamil hymns of the Alwars. At Tirumala, the observance includes Nalayira Divya Prabandham recitations and ceremonial stages around Vaikunta Ekadasi. TTD has not yet confirmed its December 2026 commencement date.

Past TTD announcements explain why using an old calendar is risky. The annual festival has appeared on different December dates because the Vaikunta Ekadasi date itself changes. Therefore, a date copied from an earlier year cannot serve as the 2026 schedule.

How are Pagalpattu and Rapattu connected?

Pagalpattu and Rapattu are traditional stages of Adhyayanotsavam. Earlier TTD explanations describe the first eleven days as Pagalpattu and the next ten as Rapattu, followed by additional concluding observances. The complete festival traditionally spans 25 days in the Tirumala account.

These names refer to a structured cycle of devotional recitation, rather than two separate public ticketing programmes. For 2026, the starting day and each ceremonial date remain subject to TTD’s monthly announcement.

As a result, devotees interested in a specific Adhyayanotsavam recital should not infer its date by subtracting days from an expected Ekadasi. Wait for the organiser’s published timetable.

Tirumala December 2026 Festivals: Confirmed Versus Expected

The safest way to read the Tirumala December 2026 festivals calendar is to separate three kinds of information. They are official festival announcements, traditional panchang dates and predictions based on older TTD programmes.

  • Official confirmation: TTD’s 24 September 2026 announcement establishes the Tiruchanur Brahmotsavam window of 5–14 December.
  • Panchang expectation: Available calendar references place Vaikunta Ekadasi on 20 December, subject to TTD’s temple programme.
  • Traditional seasonal timing: Dhanurmasam is expected around 16 December, while its detailed temple arrangements remain pending.
  • Historical pattern: Adhyayanotsavam and extended Vaikunta Dwara darshan may follow familiar sequences, but their 2026 timetables are not confirmed.

Another point often causes confusion: the December regular quota calendar is already official, while the special Vaikunta Dwara access rules are not. These two announcements serve different purposes.

December 2026 Darshan Quota and Festival Access

TTD announced its regular December 2026 online darshan and accommodation quota schedule on 12 September 2026. The release window ran from 19 to 24 September. However, those regular monthly releases should not be mistaken for a Vaikunta Ekadasi special ticket announcement.

Quota categoryOfficial releaseMeaning
Arjitha Seva e-DIP registration19 September, 10 AMRegular December seva quota
Kalyanotsavam and listed paid sevas22 September, 10 AMRegular seva release

Those dates describe the original release, not current availability. Tickets and accommodation depend on the inventory shown in the official system when you check.

Our December 2026 TTD quota release guide explains the confirmed monthly schedule in detail. For festival-specific access, continue checking TTD News and the official booking portal.

Planning a December Tirumala and Tiruchanur Visit

A useful December itinerary depends on your main purpose. Tiruchanur Brahmotsavam and Vaikunta Ekadasi are different occasions, so they should not be treated as interchangeable travel dates.

For Tiruchanur Brahmotsavam devotees

Plan within the confirmed 5–14 December festival window. If Panchami Theertham is your priority, keep the expected final day in mind while awaiting TTD’s exact programme.

Allow extra time for local traffic and crowd controls. TTD has already directed officials to prepare holding points, queue systems and medical facilities. Therefore, a tightly timed same-day transfer from Tirumala may be inconvenient.

For Vaikunta Ekadasi devotees

Keep 20 December as the expected festival date, not as a guaranteed darshan reservation. Check the specific admission category before making non-refundable travel arrangements.

If TTD publishes a separate selection or ticket process, follow that notice rather than old instructions circulating online. Your eligibility, application method and reporting requirements may differ from the regular monthly system.

For pilgrims interested in seasonal worship

The period after mid-December may suit devotees particularly interested in Tiruppavai and Dhanurmasam traditions. However, attending a public darshan does not guarantee access to every internal temple ceremony.

Adhyayanotsavam devotees should wait for the official recital calendar if a particular stage matters to them. A flexible itinerary is often more useful than guessing an exact ceremony date.

What Can Go Wrong With December Festival Plans?

The biggest mistake is assuming that a festival calendar acts as a ticket confirmation. It does not. TTD controls entry, quotas and operational arrangements, and no public festival date guarantees admission.

  1. Special tickets are not yet announced: Do not register through an unofficial link. Check TTD’s own news and booking channels.
  2. Regular quotas show no availability: Check whether TTD publishes any further official availability or alternate eligible category. None is guaranteed.
  3. Festival timings change: Follow the latest TTD notice before travelling. Do not rely on an old procession timetable.
  4. Traffic and queues cause delays: Keep a practical time buffer between Tirumala and Tiruchanur visits.
  5. An agent promises special access: Avoid private ticket sellers and unofficial payment requests. Use only the authorised TTD system.

If the permitted quota is exhausted, there may be no further access for your chosen date. The realistic fallback is a different officially available date or category, not a promise from an intermediary.

Practical Details Many December Calendars Miss

A calendar with several dates can create the illusion of one continuous festival. In reality, the two main December destinations involve different temples and different worship traditions.

First, Tiruchanur Brahmotsavam occurs at Sri Padmavathi Ammavari Temple near Tirupati. Vaikunta Ekadasi is especially associated with Srivari Temple on Tirumala. Visitors who hope to attend both should plan separate visits rather than assume one ticket covers everything.

Second, the first half of December and the later festival period have different planning concerns. The Tiruchanur window has official dates, while late-December Tirumala access still depends on event-specific instructions.

Third, December’s regular quota release took place months before the festival. So a new special announcement, if TTD issues one, must be read on its own terms. There is no reason to assume the old release date or method will repeat.

Carry drinking water and necessary medicines, and plan for long periods of standing when queues are heavy. Anyone considering a religious fast should take particular care if pregnant, elderly or managing a medical condition. Seek medical advice when fasting could affect your health.

Where to Check the Official December Festival Calendar

TTD News is the primary place to check press releases about temple events, festival processions and operational changes. The official TTD portal handles authorised booking services. Use the appropriate source because an announcement of worship dates may not contain ticket instructions.

For context on recent temple scheduling, see the November 2026 Tirumala festivals guide. However, November dates cannot establish an event’s December schedule.

Tirumala December 2026 Festivals: Before You Travel

The most dependable date range is 5–14 December for Tiruchanur Brahmotsavam. Vaikunta Ekadasi is expected on 20 December, with Dhanurmasam expected around 16 December. Meanwhile, the detailed Adhyayanotsavam calendar and Vaikunta Dwara arrangements remain unannounced.

Use the confirmed Tiruchanur window to make broad plans, but check the festival-specific TTD notices before committing to a particular ceremony. Most importantly, treat dates and admission as separate questions. A festival may take place even when your preferred darshan category is unavailable.
