Tirumala Pavithrotsavam 2025 will be held from August 5 to 7 with daily rituals, processions, and special poojas. Arjita sevas will remain cancelled during this period.

What is Pavithrotsavam?

Pavithrotsavam is a sacred annual purification ritual observed at Tirumala Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple. As per Agama Shastra, these rituals purify the temple premises and correct any unintentional mistakes that might have occurred during the year in the daily sevas or celebrations.

These include both prayaschitta (atonement) and punyahavachanam (purification), reaffirming the sanctity of the shrine.

Historical Significance of Pavithrotsavam

  • Pavithrotsavams were regularly performed in Tirumala during the 15th and 16th centuries, according to ancient temple records.
  • The tradition was revived in 1962 by TTD (Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams) and has continued uninterrupted since then.
  • The word “Pavithrotsavam” combines Pavithra (purity) and Utsavam (festival), signifying the restoration of divine purity.
