Dakshinayana begins on Ashada Suddha Ekadashi Narayana, who has taken up Yoganidra in the milk bowl and wakes up on Kartika Suddha Ekadashi. On the Ekadashi of Pushyamasa Shuklapaksha, all three deities make their way to Vaikuntha in order to pay a visit to the Lord who has awakened. Because of this, the day is known as Mukkoti Ekadashi. Because on this day the righteous dead are permitted to enter paradise, the day is referred to as Swargadwara Ekadashi in the Dakshinayana school of thought.

Margasira Suddha Ekadashi is ‘Vaikuntha Ekadashi’. This method is known as “Moksthekadashi.” On that particular day, the devotees believe that in order to guarantee one’s salvation, one must enter a Vishnu temple through the north gate and perform a darshan there. On that particular day, significant celebrations are held in Vaishnava Kshetras such as Yadadri, Simhachalam, Tirupati, and Srirangam.
