Karnataka Pravasi Soudha, Tirumala — pilgrim information guide

Karnataka Pravasi Soudha is a state guest house (choultry) at Tirumala that provides accommodation to pilgrims from Karnataka visiting the Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple. It is run by the Karnataka Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowments (KHRICE / Muzrai) Department, and rooms are reserved online through the department’s official portal. Only Karnataka residents are eligible, Aadhaar-based verification is required, and stays are short (a maximum of two days) because demand far exceeds the limited number of rooms. This guide explains, factually, where the Soudha is, who can stay, the room categories, the rules, and how the official booking works.

Where it is located

The Soudha sits on the Ring Road at Tirumala, opposite the Tirumala Museum, within walking or short shuttle distance of the main temple area. Its postal location falls under Chittoor District, Andhra Pradesh, PIN 517504. Because it is on the hill at Tirumala itself, pilgrims staying here are close to the temple, the queue complexes and the free bus circulation, rather than down in Tirupati town. View the approximate Google Maps location.

Who is eligible to stay

Karnataka Pravasi Soudha is meant specifically for pilgrims who are residents of Karnataka. The booking system asks you to upload a copy of your Aadhaar card as proof of residence, and the same original ID must be produced at check-in. According to the official portal, bookings made by people who are not Karnataka residents are liable to be cancelled, with no refund processed under any circumstances. Unmarried couples are not permitted to stay. If your residence details cannot be verified, plan for alternative TTD accommodation instead of relying on this facility.

Room categories

The official portal lists the accommodation under two named blocks, following Karnataka heritage themes:

  • Aihole Block — Non-AC Room: the basic, lower-cost category.
  • Hampi Block — AC Suite (Type 1, Type 2 and Type 3): air-conditioned suite rooms in three variants.

Room tariffs are set by the department and are shown against each category on the booking portal at the time of reservation. As published rates can change, this guide does not quote a fixed price — confirm the current tariff for your chosen block directly on the official portal before you book. Each room is intended for a small family group; occupancy limits are displayed per room during booking.

Rules pilgrims should know

  • One room, two days: a registered user can book only one room, for a maximum of two days. Spot / same-day bookings are not encouraged, so plan ahead.
  • Traditional dress code: the department asks devotees to wear traditional attire — for men, dhoti with shirt/kurta or pyjama/pant; for women, saree, half-saree or churidar with dupatta.
  • Carry your original ID: the exact ID/Aadhaar uploaded during booking must be shown at check-in.
  • No cancellation or refund: bookings are final. Postponement, advancement, cancellation and refund are not allowed once paid, except in declared government emergencies.
  • Limited quota: the number of rooms is small relative to pilgrim demand, so availability on your preferred date is not guaranteed.
