The sacred ritual Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam, meaning “temple cleansing ceremony,” was conducted with spiritual grandeur at Sri Govindaraja Swamy Temple in Tirupati on Thursday, May 29, 2025.

This traditional ritual is observed ahead of major temple festivals to purify and spiritually cleanse the entire temple premises. The ceremony was held as a preparatory ritual for the upcoming annual Brahmotsavams scheduled between June 2 and June 10, 2025.

What Happened During the Tirumanjanam Ceremony?

  • The event began at 6:45 AM in the early hours of Thursday.
  • The entire temple — including sanctum, inner walls, floors, and mandapams — was cleansed with “Parimalam”, a special aromatic herbal mixture made of camphor, turmeric, sandalwood, and other sacred materials.
  • This mixture is believed to purify the temple space both physically and spiritually.
  • After the cleansing, temple staff wiped all areas and restored the temple to its divine ambiance.

Purpose and Significance of Koil Alwar Tirumanjanam

Devotees Allowed for Darshan After Cleansing

  • After the cleansing process, the temple was opened to devotees for Darshan.

  • Many pilgrims participated in the auspicious ritual and felt spiritually uplifted by witnessing this sacred event.

  • The temple saw a peaceful and disciplined crowd, maintaining cleanliness and spiritual decorum.

Officials and Priests Present

  • The event was supervised by Temple AEO Sri Munikrishna Reddy.
