Tirumala TTD Accommodation Room Allotment Extension Procedure

Shiva Venkateswara May 26, 2022 Updated Jul 6, 2026 7 min read

The short answer: at Tirumala, a TTD accommodation room is allotted for 24 hours only, and under the official rules no extension is granted. Once your 24-hour window ends you are expected to vacate, and the same room is re-allotted to the next pilgrim in line. If you need to stay longer, the correct approach is to book a fresh allotment for the additional day through the official TTD portal, subject to availability. Overstaying is not treated as a casual “extension” — TTD applies steeply enhanced rent for late departures. This guide explains how rooms are allotted at Tirumala, what the check-in and check-out policy actually says, and what happens if you overstay.

How TTD allots rooms at Tirumala

Almost all accommodation on the Tirumala hill is built and maintained by Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) itself — there are no private lodges on the hill. Rooms range from free choultry accommodation and low-cost dormitories to paid cottages and guest houses. Under TTD’s current mechanism there are roughly 6,600 rooms in the pool. A portion (around 2,000 rooms) is released for online advance booking, while the remaining rooms are distributed on-the-spot through a token system at the Central Reception Office (CRO).

Online advance booking

Registered users can book a room in advance through the official portal. Booking opens against a released quota, and TTD’s advance-booking rules state that only one accommodation is allotted per registered user within the quota window. Registration on the TTD website (username and password) is mandatory, and a booking confirmation with the reporting-time details is sent to your email. Rooms are booked strictly online for the advance quota — point your browsing only to the official portal and avoid third-party reseller sites.

Token system at the CRO

For pilgrims arriving without an advance booking, TTD runs a token-based allotment at the Central Reception Office (CRO) near the Tirumala bus stand, with additional registration points set up across the hill. Under this system:

  • Pilgrims register with their Aadhaar card; a fingerprint is captured along with a valid mobile number.
  • Registration is conducted in slots (reported as around 6 a.m. and 2 p.m.).
  • A token is issued showing the registration number, name, mobile number and the expected time of allotment; an SMS confirmation is also sent.
  • When a room is allotted, you must occupy it within 30 minutes of allotment and pay the requisite amount. If you do not, the room is automatically cancelled and passed to the next pilgrim in the sequence.

The 24-hour rule and why there is no extension

TTD’s accommodation is designed for very high daily turnover — lakhs of pilgrims arrive each day and every room needs to be recycled quickly and fairly. Because of this, a room is booked for a single 24-hour block. When that block ends, the system treats the room as free and makes it available to the next pilgrim. There is no built-in “extend by one more day” button, which is why the official FAQ is explicit that no extension is allowed. In practice, if you genuinely need another night, the reliable route is to place a fresh booking for the next day rather than assuming you can simply hold the same room.

What counts as check-in and check-out?

Your 24-hour clock starts from the time the room is allotted to you. For example, if you occupy a room at 10 a.m., your stay runs until about 10 a.m. the following day. Plan your darshan slot, laddu collection and departure around this window so you are not caught short near check-out time. TTD does not publish a uniform single “check-out hour” for every category the way a hotel does; the 24-hour block from allotment is the governing rule, so confirm your exact reporting and vacating time on the booking receipt.

Overstay penalties: what “enhanced rent” means

Rather than a small extension fee, TTD enforces departure discipline through penalty rent. Per TTD’s stated policy, late occupation attracts 200% enhanced rent after 48 hours and 400% enhanced rent after 72 hours. In plain terms, holding a room well past your window can cost several times the normal tariff — a strong reason to vacate on time or to book a fresh allotment properly instead of overstaying.

Caution deposit and payment

For many paid categories, TTD collects the room rent along with a refundable caution deposit at the time of occupation, which is returned at check-out after the room is handed back in good condition. Exact deposit amounts vary by room category and can change, so treat the figure quoted at the counter or on the portal as the authoritative one. Room tariffs themselves span a wide range — from free choultries and dormitories to cottages and guest houses — and are listed by area on the official rest-house pages.

Practical tips for a smooth stay

  • If you know your dates, use the online advance quota as soon as it is released — it saves you from the token queue.
  • Arriving without a booking? Head to the CRO early and keep your Aadhaar and a working mobile number ready for registration.
  • Watch the clock — once allotted, occupy within 30 minutes or the room is reassigned.
  • Need a second night? Place a separate booking for the extra day rather than relying on an extension.
  • Vacate on time to avoid enhanced-rent penalties and to keep the deposit refund straightforward.
  • Because quotas, tariffs and timings can change, always reconfirm the current details on the official TTD portal before you travel.

Frequently asked questions

Can I extend my TTD room in Tirumala for one more day?

No. The official policy states the allotment is for 24 hours only and no extension is allowed. If you need to stay longer, book a fresh allotment for the additional day through the official TTD portal, subject to availability.

How long is a Tirumala accommodation booking valid?

The room is allotted for a single 24-hour block starting from the time of allotment or check-in. After that, the room is released for the next pilgrim.

What happens if I overstay beyond 24 hours?

Late occupation attracts enhanced rent — TTD’s policy specifies 200% after 48 hours and 400% after 72 hours. It is far cheaper to vacate on time or make a fresh booking.

How do I get a room if I did not book online?

Go to the Central Reception Office (CRO) near the Tirumala bus stand and register using your Aadhaar card and mobile number. A token is issued with your expected allotment time, and you must occupy the allotted room within 30 minutes.

How many days in advance can I book a room online?

Rooms are released against a quota and booked in advance through the official portal, with one accommodation allotted per registered user within the quota window. Because the exact window and quota release dates change, confirm the current advance-booking window on the official TTD portal.

Is there a caution deposit?

Yes, many paid categories require a refundable caution deposit collected at occupation and returned at check-out. The amount depends on the room category, so rely on the figure shown at the counter or on the official portal.
