For any accommodation booking, please use the official TTD website or contact the property directly through their own verified channels.

The “TTD Rs 50 rooms” are Tirumala’s most basic paid rest-house accommodation, with a nominal room tariff of about Rs. 50 per day. They are simple, twin-bed rooms in a choultry (pilgrim rest house) meant for short family stays close to the Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple. Because the tariff is so low, these rooms are limited in number and in heavy demand, so most pilgrims obtain them offline at the Central Reception Office (CRO) in Tirumala on arrival, subject to availability, rather than online. All genuine booking is handled only through the official Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) systems.

What exactly are the Rs 50 rooms?

TTD, the state-run trust that administers the Tirumala temple, maintains hundreds of rest houses, cottages and guest houses across Tirumala so that the lakhs of pilgrims who arrive each day have a place to stay. This accommodation is organised into “sectors” and is priced across a wide range, from free dormitories up to premium deluxe suites. The Rs 50 category sits at the bottom of the paid range.

The most commonly cited Rs 50 accommodation is a block of around 206 twin-bed rooms in the III Choultry. These are plain rooms with shared or common facilities, and a common open-area cooking space is typically available nearby. They are intended for pilgrims travelling with family who need only a modest, short stay. Alongside these, TTD also offers free accommodation in large dormitories and certain cottages for pilgrims who cannot pay, so a Rs 50 room is not the only budget option.

Room categories and prices are revised by TTD from time to time and vary by sector, so treat the figures below as indicative. Always confirm the current tariff and availability on the official TTD portal before you travel.

How the booking actually works

There are two honest ways to obtain a TTD room in Tirumala: advance booking online, or an over-the-counter allotment after you reach Tirumala. The Rs 50 rooms, being the cheapest and fewest, are usually secured through the second route.

Online advance booking

TTD releases its accommodation quota well ahead of the stay date — currently the online quota is generally opened roughly 90 days (about three months) in advance, refreshed each month. Booking is done on the official TTD portal, where devotees log in with their mobile number and a one-time password (OTP), pick a check-in date and time slot, choose a room category and pay online. In the online list you will most often see mid-range categories such as Rs 100, Rs 500, Rs 1,000 and higher; the Rs 50 rooms are not always offered online and, when the quota opens, they are taken almost immediately. If you do not see a Rs 50 room online, that simply means the small quota is exhausted or is held for the offline counter.

At the CRO, after you arrive

If you have not booked in advance, you can try for a “current booking” (same-day allotment) at the Central Reception Office (CRO) in Tirumala. Since facial-recognition checks were introduced, TTD consolidated its offline room counters at the CRO. A limited number of rooms — including the cheapest categories — are released here each day on a first-come, first-served basis, and they sell out quickly during busy periods. Bring valid photo ID for every adult. For paid rooms, the counter usually collects the room tariff plus a refundable caution deposit, which is returned when you check out on time and leave the room in order.

Eligibility and key rules

  • ID is mandatory: Indian nationals should carry Aadhaar; foreign nationals and NRIs should carry a passport.
  • One room per account: TTD generally allows only one room per user account / per Aadhaar for a given stay.
  • Occupancy limit: Up to about six persons may stay in one room; the rooms are meant for families, not large groups.
  • Check-in slots: Online bookings carry a fixed check-in date and time slot, so plan your arrival around it.
  • Caution deposit: Paid rooms usually involve a refundable deposit collected at check-in.

These rules are set and periodically updated by TTD, so verify the current terms on the official portal at the time of booking.

Important: Rs 50 is a room, not a darshan ticket

Pilgrims sometimes confuse “Rs 50” with a cheap darshan ticket. They are different things. The Rs 50 figure here refers to accommodation. TTD’s paid faster-darshan option is the Special Entry Darshan (often called Sudarsanam / the Rs 300 ticket), which costs about Rs. 300 per person and is sold online through the official TTD portal with a fixed time slot. The free Sarva Darshan queue remains available to everyone at no cost. So a Rs 50 payment gets you a basic room, not temple entry.

Frequently asked questions

Are the Rs 50 rooms available online?

Not reliably. The online quota mostly lists higher categories such as Rs 100 and above. The small number of Rs 50 rooms is generally allotted offline at the CRO in Tirumala on the day, when available.

How far in advance can I book a TTD room online?

TTD currently opens its online accommodation quota around 90 days (about three months) before the stay date, refreshed monthly. Confirm the exact release schedule on the official portal, as it can change.

What is the CRO?

The Central Reception Office in Tirumala is where TTD handles offline / same-day room allotment. Since the move to facial recognition, offline room counters were consolidated at the CRO.

How many people can stay in one Rs 50 room?

The basic rooms are twin-bed and family-oriented; TTD generally permits up to about six persons per room, subject to the current rules.

Is there any free accommodation in Tirumala?

Yes. TTD provides free dormitories and certain free cottages for pilgrims, allotted on arrival. A Rs 50 room is a paid alternative to these free options.

What is the official website for TTD room booking?

TTD’s accommodation and darshan services are booked through the official TTD portal at tirupatibalaji.ap.gov.in (also reachable via ttdevasthanams.ap.gov.in) and information is published on tirumala.org. Use only these official channels; do not pay any third party or private “agent” for TTD rooms.
