Athi Varadar who is also called as Athi Varadaraja Swamy is the main deity in Varadharaja Perumal Temple, Kanchipuram. As per the temple legend and ritual, the huge idol of Athi Varadar swamy is stored in the Pushkarini in the temple and will be raised for every 40 Years. Once the idol is raised, pooja is performed for 48 days and then the idol will be immersed again in to the Pushkarini.  For the First 38 days, the idol will be kept in sleeping posture (Sayana Bhangima) and remaining last 10 days, the idol is placed in standing posture (Sthanika Bhangima). As per the rules of the, temple, this year 2019 will be the year in which Athi Varadar Idol will be raised again.

Dates of Athi Varadar Darshan

Athi Varadar is raised again now in this current year 2019 on the date of 1st July 2019. The idol will be raised from the pushkarini on this date and will be immersed back in to the pushkarini after 48 days i.e on  August 17, 2019

Darshan timings of Athi Varadar

Pilgrims flock to the temple of Varadaraja swamy temple on theses dates in lakhs. The temple allows pilgrims to have Darshan of the idol on two timings every day. The timings of Darshan are Morning 7:30 AM to 12:30 PM and  Evening 3:30 PM to 8:00 PM.

Darshan Procedure of Athi Varadar

Pilgrims have two ways to have Darshan of Athi Varadar. Pilgrims can book their tickets online or can purchase at the temple itself. The temple has two gopurams. At the east gopuram, the pilgrims can purchase the Darshan tickets for Rs. 50/. There are separate ques for Senior Citizens and PHC Pilgrims. But they are all usually crowdy. There is Rs. 50 ticket available for fast darshan. Rs. 500 ticket for Sahasranama Archana. Pilgrims can enter in to the temple for Free for darshan and can join the free que.

Usually, the darshan take 3-4 hours based on the crowd. Once the pilgrims enter the que, they will reach the Vasantha Mandapam where the idol is placed and the pilgrims can have darshan of the idol.

Online Booking of Athi Varadar Darshan Procedure

Pilgrims also can book their tickets for the darshan online at the https://tnhrce.gov.in/ website. Pilgrims can book the tickets for the Sahasranama Archana or Rs. 300 Special Darshan. Please note below points before booking on the website.

  1. Darshan tickets are released every at 10 AM before 4 days of any date.
  2. The tickets are released for two darshan timings  05:00 PM and 06. 30 AM
  3. Every day 500 tickets are released. 250 for morning and 250 for evening batch.
  4.  The Sahasranama Archana cannot be registered for Saturday and Sunday.

Procedure of Online Booking Athi Varadar Darshan

As soon as you visit the website https://tnhrce.gov.in/ you can see the Darshan booking for Athi Varadar highlighted in red. Click on that and Book the slot you are willing for Darshan and also fill your details Date, Persons booking, Address, Phone etc. Once you finish the details. Click on the Submit button and finish the payment process online. Once the payment is completed the Darshan token can printed from the website. Please carry and ID proof and also an hard copy of the Darshan ticket.
