  • On the occasion of Tula Sankranti, Kodagu, the region where the Kaveri River originates in, hosts an annual fair celebrating the river’s passage. The festival begins on the 17th of October and continues until the 17th of November.
  • The origin can be traced back to Talakaveri, which can be found on a hill approximately two kilometres away from the Bhagandeshwar temple in Bhagmandal in the district of Kodagu.

  • On the day of Tula Sankraman, the Kani Puja of Mother Kaveri is a particular puja that is conducted in the homes of Kodagu people. Dosa and pumpkin juice that have been prepared especially for the festival are placed in a banana leaf along with ghee.
  • The elders of the house then light an oil lamp on the tip of the banana leaf, position it so that it is facing east on the specially planted three bechs in their field, and offer a prayer to the god. This ritual takes place before sunrise.
